Mothers:
The Gift of Life

From Pastor Garth Heckman
May 12th, 2006
It's
true that Mothers give us life, but with that they give us so
much more. Many times giving day in and day out can be draining.
Through the trials and joy mothers feel a pain that only they
can understand. Children that do not always obey, high expectations
by outside influences and the busyness of life can quickly burn
out the best of moms. Does anyone know a mom that wishes life
was harder? And even if the kids are out of the house and the
pace slows down, then they still deal with the loneliness of an
empty house. When we look at Christ as he calls us to be his disciples
we see an interesting point in scripture.
Mat
11:28-30 "Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion?
Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll
show you how to take a real rest. 29 Walk with me and work with
me--watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I
won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. 30 Keep company
with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly." (The
Message Bible )
Jesus
speaks here of his yoke and the call he has placed on those who
follow him. Notice his words, they are tender, understanding and
encouraging. He wants us to know that regardless of our position
in life that as his disciples we are called to rest in his grace.
The same rules that apply to his disciples applies to mothers
that learn to rest in him. I pray that mothers this weekend begin
to lean more on Christ and his rest that he provides. May you
understand that the great and sometimes burdensome gift of motherhood
comes with a measure of grace that is available daily through
Christ our Lord.
*Remember this Sunday Harmony would like to give mothers the special
gift of a professional picture taken of themselves and their families.
This is a beautiful 8x10 color photo that you can pick up the
following Sunday.
